Choose the right food to control your diabetes

Learning to
eat well is an important part of controlling your diabetes. This section offers
tips on healthy eating, weight management, recipes and special diets. Remember
that eating healthy is not just for people with diabetes.
What kind of healthy foods should I choose?
Eat smaller
portions. Know recommended for different foods and the amount of servings
needed for food rations are.
Eat less
fat. Choose fewer foods high in fat and use less fat for cooking. In
particular, try to limit your intake of foods that are high in saturated fats
and Trans fatty acids, such as:

Fat
cuts of meat.

Fried
foods.
·
Whole
milk and products made with whole milk.
·
Cakes,
candies, cookies or crackers and cakes.

Salad
dressings.
·
Animal
and vegetable shortening, stick margarine and non-dairy creamer.
What foods should I eat more?
Eat more
high-fiber foods like whole grain preparations. These foods include:
Breakfast
cereals made with 100% whole grains.
Avena
Integral
rice
Breads,
bagels, pita bread and whole wheat tortillas
Eat a
variety of fruits and vegetables daily. Eat fresh, frozen, canned or dried
fruit juice and 100% natural. Eat vegetables like these in large quantities:
Dark green
vegetables (eg. Broccoli, spinach, Brussels sprouts).
Orange
vegetables (eg. Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, squash).
Peas or
beans and peas (eg. Black beans, chickpeas, red kidney beans, pinto beans,
shelled peas and lentils and parties).
What foods should I eat less?
Drink less
foods high in sugar, such as:
Fruit-flavored
drinks.
Refreshments
Tea or
coffee sweetened with sugar.
Use less
salt in cooking and add less salt to food at the table. Eat fewer foods high in
salt, such as:
Canned soups
or over.
Canned
vegetables.
Pickles.
Processed
meats.
